For those of you who have yet to hear the news, US President Barack Obama has announced an end to the war in Iraq. He has ordered a recall of all American forces with the exclusion of a contingent of 40,000 men and women who will tie up loose ends and return home next year. Although Afghanistan, the world’s leading producer of illicit opium and heroin, is currently the hotbed of poppy cultivation their history with the narcotic is surprisingly short. Sorry for the downtime everyone, my internet has been on the fritz. Fortunately Bell just sent me my new modem (only several days late) so now I can finally depart from the stoneage once again. Look for more posts here and on EducatedEarth.net over the coming days.

For those that didn’t know, Starcraft has such a massive following in South Korea that they host an annual World Cyber Games competition where people face off in Starcraft to win a whopping $435,000 USD prize! In 2005 there were over 800 players from 67 countries. Over 39,000 spectators shows up at the competition to cheer for the players.

For those that are unaware, Asia is experiencing severe rains leading to flooding and landslides. The controversial Three Gorges Dam was not spared from the impact of this abnormal weather, in fact it is now being bombarded by a flood of washed up garbage!
